Working primarily in watercolor, but equally happy with a sketchbook in my hand, I use my art to capture moments in time, place, and experience. My art reflects a broad and diverse range of interests in nature, wildlife, landscapes, and people I meet or observe around the world.
Through my watercolors, painted both en plein air and in the studio, I endeavor to share the joy I found during a brief respite, an exciting adventure, or even an "imaginary" paint sojourn. Through each piece of art, a special moment is allowed to live again and be shared over and over.
An explorer at heart, John has snowshoed peaks in the Adirondack mountains of New York, hiked the Grand Canyon, and rafted 182 miles of the Colorado River through the beauty of its depths. He has trekked to ruins in Navajo Country, climbed the pyramids in Mayan and Aztec ruins, watched the setting sun cast a glow across the Amazon in Brazil, and stood on Machu Picchu in Peru. He has wandered amidst the beauty of the Taj Mahal and the Pink City of Jaipur, India, walked a portion of the Great Wall of China, and snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef. John has also experienced the wonders of Stonehenge, and many of the magnificent temples, tombs, and pyramids along the Nile, wandered reverently through Thailand's temples, and photographed wildlife in the vast Masai Mara in Kenya.
John has expanded his own natural talents through studies under artists Ned Mueller, Robert "Shoofly" Shufelt, Don O'Neil, Raleigh Kinney, Lewis Barrett Lehrman, Mary DeLoyht-Arendt, and Don Andrews, among others. His works are found in private collections across the United States, England, and Bermuda.
