RAC’s Artist in Residency work connects artists with communities across Riverside County through public-facing art, mural projects, creative mentorship, and community engagement.
About the Program
Artists working with communities across Riverside County
Artist in Residency opportunities can take shape in different communities through public art, murals, workshops, mentorship, storytelling, and neighborhood-based engagement. RAC supports these projects by helping artists and partners move from idea to community-centered creative work.
Current and recent residency work includes the City of Riverside Artist in Residency pilot and the Hemet Valley Artists in Residency initiative. Together, these projects show how residency models can support artists, strengthen local identity, and invite residents into the public art process.
Public Art
Creative work becomes stronger when residents are part of the process.
AIR supports artists as they engage residents, listen to neighborhood stories, and develop public-facing artwork rooted in local identity and connection.

Hemet Valley Artists in Residency
Community-led mural making and artist mentorship
RAC also supported the Hemet Valley Artists in Residency program, a community mural initiative led by Healthy Valley Foundation. The project was centered on public art, community voice, and hands-on mentorship in the mural-making process.
Lead artist Rosy Cortez guided the mural design and mentored 11 emerging artists, helping them build skills through a real community-led public art project. Residents contributed stories, hopes, and themes through community engagement opportunities that shaped the mural.
RAC provided technical assistance, mural mentorship, and public art expertise alongside partners including Healthy Valley Foundation and Hemet Valley Art Association.

Neighborhood-based public art and engagement
The City of Riverside, in partnership with Riverside Arts Council, selected six artists to participate in an 18-month Artist in Residency pilot funded with American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The Riverside pilot is designed to enrich community life through meaningful, public-facing art. Artists engage residents across the City of Riverside’s seven wards and develop murals and community engagement connected to the neighborhoods they serve. The current pilot is scheduled to conclude by December 2026.

Meet the Riverside AIR artists
Pavel Acevedo
Pavel is a printmaker, muralist, and art educator from Oaxaca, now based in Riverside. Trained at Rufino Tamayo Studio and Oaxaca’s Fine Arts School, his work spans California to New York, appears in major museum collections, and includes community workshops across the Southwest.
Richie “Deladeso” Velazquez
Richie Velazquez, also known as Deladeso, is a Riverside-based multidisciplinary artist known for his Digital Grime and OOF style, blending cartoon drips, pop culture, and mental health themes. His work includes video, street art, installations, and community events.
Patrick Barwinski
Patrick Barwinski is a mural artist who uses bold color, cultural symbolism, and storytelling to uplift and unite communities. His community-centered approach focuses on pride, connection, belonging, and meaningful public art.
Maryam Trebeau Crogman
Dr. MTC is a Caribbean-European artist, photographer, and muralist whose work explores cultural identity through vibrant, large-scale paintings. Her work uses bold color, chains, and spray paint to amplify community voices across Southern California’s Inland Empire.
Ronald Del Cid
Ronald Del Cid is a visual artist from the San Gabriel Valley known for murals across Los Angeles and Riverside. His work blends community engagement with vibrant storytelling and public expression.
Alejandro “Mano” Mirande
Alejandro “Mano” Mirande is a muralist, artist, graphic designer, musician, and events promoter from Riverside. With 25 years of experience, his work is driven by art, love, culture, and dedication to community.

Residencies grow through community partnerships
RAC’s Artist in Residency work can be shaped with cities, foundations, community organizations, artists, and local partners. The Riverside pilot is supported by the City of Riverside Arts & Cultural Affairs Division and managed by Riverside Arts Council.
The Hemet Valley initiative was led by Healthy Valley Foundation with RAC providing technical assistance, mural mentorship, and public art support.
